On a spring day in 2004, Aric & Chris both reported for work in the underground mining industry. Aric returned home for dinner with his family, Chris did not.

During his shift as a CM (continuous miner machine) operator, Chris was pinned against the mine wall by the CM and crushed. Aric was working as an automation engineer providing services for the company that Chris worked for and knew he could solve this problem, so he did.

Aric founded a company that would literally change the underground mining world. His products would capture the largest global market share and lead Congress to twice mandate their use in the United States. Underground mining fatalities have fallen 65% since that fateful day and injuries by 90%.

His customers came for safety but soon learned his products were also a platform to drive insights, efficiency and profitability. Aric built more and more productivity tools on top of his core safety product leading to even broader industry adoption.

When the offer came that he couldn’t refuse, Aric sold his company, but he wasn’t done changing the world of safety.

Having tamed the extraordinarily challenging underground environment, Aric wondered why the same issues still plagued manufacturing and warehousing. He knew he could solve these problems, too.

Quarion introduced its MVP in 2015 to bring a Real Time Location Services platform (indoor GPS) to the warehouse and factory floor. Aric completed the Purdue Foundry Accelerator Program and went on to win the 2018 Indiana Innovation Showcase.

Today, Quarion has become the platform of choice to for industry leaders by offering products that revolutionize workplace safety while providing an expanding suite of additional products to drive insights, productivity and profitability.

Our mission remains the same as Aric’s on that day in 2004, that every worker returns home to their family every day.
